Brown Penny

I whispered "I am too young,"
And then, "I am old enough";
Wherefore I threw a penny
To find out if I might love.
"Go and love, go and love, young man,
If the lady be young and fair."
Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny,
I am looped in the loops of her hair.

O love is the crooked thing,
There is nobody wise enough,
To find out all that is in it,
For he would be thinking of love,
Till the stars had run away,
And the shadows eaten the moon.
Ah, penny, brown penny, brown penny,
One cannot begin it too soon.

Hold Me For a Little While

hold me for a little while
till my tears all flow away
hold me for a little while
to keep my fears at bay

hold me like you mean it
let me feel your warmth
embrace me with your strength
soothe me with your voice

love has slipped away
faith no where in sight
i need to feel you near
if only for one night

cast your arms around me
tell me i’ll be all right
say you’ll stand beside me
through this dark, dark night

slide in slow behind me
chest against my spine
press your body close
hearts will be entwined

hold me for a little while
before all feeling slips away
hold me for a little while
we have so much to say

hold me like you mean it
say sweet tender things
touch me like you do
who cares what morning brings

i need to know your goodness
to help relieve my pain
so I can feel forgiveness
and learn to live again
